Hello readers and welcome to my blog! I decided to create this site to tell my story about gluten free living. "What is gluten and why should I care" you might ask, let me share with you.
Back in December of 2009, during some free time, I decided to tune into the Dr. Oz show (it's actually a very informative and smart show). On this particular episode, Dr. Oz talked about food intake, the digestive system, the breaking down of particular foods, food allergies, and normal vs. abnormal bodily functions. What caught my attention was his mention of gluten.
I had always had problems with the foods I ate. I've always been a relatively healthy eater with an active lifestyle. I followed the rules of healthy eating: sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. However, nothing ever settled well. I suffered routinely from upset stomach and nausea and was always hungry, no matter what I ate. I was often tired and felt depleted for no reason. I tried everything from changing my diet (though I was already eating healthy foods), eliminating dairy and taking probiotic supplements. I saw my doctor several times regarding the issue, but to no avail. The diagnosis: IBS. I still didn't have answers.
Back to the Dr. Oz Show. When I was watching in December of 2009, it had been approximately 16 years since the onset of my first symptoms! When I heard "try a gluten-free diet" I jumped out of my seat (literally I did) and began to do my research. My 2 month journey has brought me here...to a new g-free lifestyle! While I continue to learn about gluten free foods and a life changing diet, the knowledge I've gained thus far, I'd like to share with you.
Stay tuned for more information on living the gluten-free life. For those suffering or for those who simply want to try another healthy alternative, I can tell you this: gluten-free is the way to be!
